Brad Whitney Named to Marine Chemist Qualification Board

Nov 1, 2022

The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU), the leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance for waterfront employers, announces that AEU Loss Control Manager Brad Whitney has been named to the Marine Chemist Qualification Board (MCQB).

The MCQB is made up of members from various sectors of the maritime industry and government agencies and is appointed by the Board of Directors of the National Fire Protection Association. The board’s role is to approve the Marine Chemist's Recertification, the Registration to become a Marine Chemist Trainee, and the Initial Certification of a Marine Chemist Trainee as well as address occurrences and rule changes.

“Becoming a Marine Chemist takes a unique set of skills. The MCQB ensures all criteria are maintained and met,” said Jimmy Burgin, Senior Vice President and Director of Loss Control at AEU. “Maintaining representation on the MCQB helps us gain a better understanding of regulations governing the maritime industry and provides a place where we can address issues facing the maritime industries we represent.”

Brad Whitney has been a Loss Control Manager with The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. since 2012. He holds the designation of Certified Safety Professional from the BCSP. He is also an active member of the Las Vegas chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. Brad received his bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Oregon State University.

Whitney is the second AEU employee to be named to the MCQB. Since 2019, senior loss control manager Terry Guidry has served on the board and will end his term on the board at the end of 2022.
