About the author
John Blosse
John Bloess joined The American Equity Underwriters in 2002. He serves as a Senior Loss Control Manager. From 2007 to 2012, John worked for the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) as their Corporate Safety and Loss Control Manager where he served as Chairman of several local and regional port-related safety committees. He returned to AEU in 2012. Earlier in his career, John developed a strong background in marine cargo handling during his tenure with a large stevedoring company, where he served as the Southeast Regional Director of Loss Control.
John earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas State University and is an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer for the Maritime Industry. He currently serves as Technical Committee Member of the National Maritime Safety Association (NMSA) and is also an active member of the Savannah Propeller Club.
Jimmy Burgin
Jimmy Burgin joined The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. in 1988 and serves as Senior Vice President, Director of Loss Control. Prior to AEU, he served as Regional Director of Loss Control for a large stevedoring company in bulk, breakbulk and container cargo handling operations, as well as administered loss control programs for vessel crews in the marine towing industry.
Jimmy is a former chairman of the Technical Committee of the National Maritime Safety Association and served two terms on the MACOSH, the Maritime Advisory Committee for OSHA.
Jimmy received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana Monroe.
Terry Guidry
Terry Guidry is a Senior Loss Control Manager with The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. Prior to joining AEU in 2010, he served as the Corporate Safety Director for a large shipyard with 12 locations. Terry is a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist. He is the chairman of the Marine Chemist Qualification Board, as well as the Shipyard Representative on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Negotiated Rule Making Committee for Subpart “P” Fire Protection for Shipyard Employment. He attended Nicholls State University, where he studied safety engineering.
Christian Murillo
Christian Murillo joined The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. in 2016. He serves as a Loss Control Manager. Prior to joining AEU, Christian worked in the safety and health field. Christian received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Nichols State University.
