National Safety & Claims Forums

This annual event addresses leadership, safety and claims-related topics important to shipyards, stevedores, marine terminal operators, and marine construction companies. For a day and a half, ALMA members and their brokers learn from industry experts and peers about field-tested methods, emerging trends, and solutions to common issues. The forum is held in major U.S. cities and typically draws more than 100 safety and claims professionals.

Regional Safety & Claims Forums

AEU hosts quarterly one-day seminars to provide educational information related to leadership, loss control, claims handling, safety culture development, and more. Held regionally and at no cost to ALMA members, these seminars are ideal for members of all sizes looking to learn new skills and network with others in their industry.

Preparing Front-Line Supervisors for Success: Getting them Up to Speed & Off to a Great Start - March 2019

  • Are expectations for supervisors clearly understood and do you have a process to ensure these expectations are effectively communicated?
    • Consider performance criteria for the job
    • Consider behavior expectations of the individual
  • Do you clearly understand what’s required for success and have you put in place a process to communicate critical information and to develop critical skills?
  • Do you have a process in place to support new supervisors in their transition for the first 12 – 18 months?
  • Do you have a structured feedback process to ensure supervisors are on track and making satisfactory progress?

Continuing Education

Brokers may obtain CE credit by attending our courses on USL&H or MEL (maritime employers’ liability). Four hours of CE credit is granted for full completion of each course (eight hours total if you complete both courses).
